Who we are

The Canadian Museum of Making is a not-for-profit museum in Alberta, Canada. We respect your privacy and are committed to handling any personal information you share with us responsibly, openly and only for the purposes described here.

What we collect

We only collect the information you choose to give us, and what is needed to help you:

  • Tour requests: your name, contact details, group size, preferred dates and any notes you share about your visit.
  • Contact inquiries: your name, email address, subject and message.
  • Website use: anonymous, aggregated usage data collected through Google Analytics (see below).

Why we collect it

We use your information to review and respond to tour requests, coordinate visits, answer your questions and improve our website. We do not use it for any other purpose without your consent, and we never sell, rent or trade personal information.

How your information is stored

Our website forms are provided by a trusted third-party form service. Information you submit is stored securely by that service, which may store data on servers outside of Canada (for example, in the United States). As a result, your information may be subject to the laws of those countries.

Who can access it

Access is limited to authorized museum staff and volunteers who need it to respond to you or plan your visit. We do not share your information with anyone else unless required by law.

How long we keep it

Form submissions are kept for up to 12 months and then permanently deleted, unless we need to keep them longer to meet a legal requirement.

Your rights

You may at any time:

  • ask to see the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct anything that is inaccurate;
  • withdraw your consent, or ask us to delete your information.

We will respond to your request within a reasonable time.

Google Analytics and cookies

Our website uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, such as which pages are viewed most often. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information like your browser type, device and general location. It does not identify you personally.

You can block cookies through your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics using Google's opt-out tool.
